  • Why Study the 40-Minute Study Series

The 40-Minute Study Series We could write an essay on the 40-Minute Study Series but nothing beats hearing from the author herself--Kay Arthur. Her timeless message transcends time and is relevant even today. People are finding the answers to life through the 40 minute studies. The power is there because Jesus said the words that I speak, they're spirit and they're life. They are not studying the words of man. They're studying the words of God. Watch the original footage or read the transcript below. The 40-Minute Study Series by Kay Arthur Transcript We are living in very critical times, and I know I don't need to tell you that, but I will tell you this that people need to discover truth for themselves, because God promises in His Word that he has given us everything, everything that pertains not only to life, but also to godliness, so that we might be fitted for every good work, so that nothing can come our way and throw us. This is why God laid on my heart to write the 40-Minute Bible studies. They've taken off not only here in the United States of America, but all over the world. Ministries international is in 150 countries in 70 different languages, and the 40 minute series are revolutionizing lives. And I'll tell you why. It brings a person face-to-face with what God has to say on particular subjects. How Do You Know God's Your Father? How to Live Victoriously? How to Handle Temptation What to Do About Your Sexuality? What Does the Future Hold? Money, Possessions? -- The Quest for Contentment. Every topic that is so essential for men and women to have answers to is being covered in this 40-Minute series. And the thing that makes it so awesome is it does not require homework. For those that say that they are too busy, that they don't have time to study on their own, they will sit down for 40 minutes. Anyone can lead a 40 minute study. How do you walk the walk? You talk. And they can lead it because they are told exactly what to do. All they have to do is be able to read you, read the text. The people have their own book, they mark the text, and as they mark the text, all of a sudden God is doing a work in their lives because the only text that they are looking at is the Bible, which is alive and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword. It's a discerner of the thoughts and intense of the heart. It is a light unto our path. It's the very word by which we live. It's the. It's the sword by which we stand against the enemy. It's all about the armor that protects us in difficult days. And what's happening with these books is people are opening them. They've said, "I've never studied the Bible this way!" "I've never seen truths for myself!" And then they sit there and they discuss this. It's happening in Sunday school classrooms. It is happening in small group Bible studies. It is happening one on one at lunches. Men are using them in early morning Bible studies. It is happening with teenagers. People are finding the answers to life through the 40-Minute studies. The power is there because Jesus said the words that I speak, their spirit and their life, the they are not studying the words of man. They're studying the words of God. And I just would urge you, I would urge you to pray and ask God, God, show me. Lead me to someone. It might be your family for family devotions. It might be your youth group and sit down and go through this study. You can use it at a weekend conference. You can use it over a six week period. But it will literally, literally transform lives. And I'll tell you why. It's the Word of God. And when the Word of God is taught, the Spirit of God takes that word and His Word does not return to him void. The 40-Minute Bible studies.

  • January 2025 Newsbyte: Creation Symposium, D4Y Workshop & Young Adults Classes

I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High. - Psalm 9:1-2 We are brimming with joy and gratitude as we bring you our praise newsbytes of the past month! Dive into the highlights from our recent exhilarating Creation Symposium, the dynamic D4Y Workshop, and the encouraging commencement of our Young Adult (YA) classes. Rejoice with us in thanksgiving to our faithful Lord God Almighty for His incredible hands on our ministry! Creation Symposium 2025 Unveiling Creation: Where Science Meets Faith and We’re Glad We’re Not Apes 18 January 2025 @ Precept Singapore A sight to behold--a full house of participants! In the wink and blink of an eye—without any bling—our much-anticipated Creation Symposium has come and gone. We rejoice and give thanks for the 130 people who joined us as Dr. Tjin expounded on the fascinating and curious topic of Creation. Emphatically quipping “As a scientist…,” he dished out a wealth of scientific data and arguments—distinguishing theory from hypothesis, discussing potassium, carbon dating—and drawing chuckles from the youths in our midst over protons, neutrons, and electrons. The enthusiastic responses from the audience also drew a Cheshire cat grin of approval from Dr. Tjin. Gawking at the 68-page slide deck that Dr. Tjin generously gifted post-conference, this non-scientific someone wouldn't even attempt to articulate the treasure trove of knowledge he imparted. However, the case study of Mount Saint Helens did leave a lasting impression. Oh, and let's not forget the emphatic repetition of “I'm glad I'm not an ape.” Us too! The tricky part of any conference is the Q&A session; you can never predict the response. It warmed our hearts to witness the spontaneity and engagement, making us realize more time should have been allocated. Yet that didn't stop enthusiastic participants from engaging with Dr. Tjin during the tea break and afterward, while others shopped for books in the other room. Yes, we had a book sale that day too! Informative and filled with much learning! The consensus among those who dropped us a note of thanks and those we asked was that it was “ informative and filled with much learning .” Indeed, it was a blessed time. We extend our sincere gratitude to our speaker, Mr. Tjin Swee Chuan, and give all praise to our awesome God for this time of learning and community gathering. In the grand tapestry of creation, we're constantly reminded of the divine wisdom and power that fashioned the universe. Every scientific discovery is a testament to God's unfathomable creativity and the intricate design of His creation. His intelligent design. WATCH: Creation Symposium 2025 - An Excerpt What's Next? A faint whisper of " End Times Prophecy Through Biblical Lens ," slated for July 2025, tremors through the walls of Precept Singapore. Yes, you heard it here first! Keep your eyes peeled for more details—exciting times are ahead! D4Y | Discover4Yourself Workshop Rooted in His Word, Nurturing Faith in Our Children 17 January 2025 @ Precept Singapore The 'graduating' class of D4Y January 2025 Creation Symposium was not the only exciting event that graced us in January. Glory be to God for the successful run of our D4Y workshop that occurred just the day before! Eleven participants delved into the depths of our D4Y material, learning how to teach children to study the Bible inductively, and enjoyed a time of fellowship over a char siew and chicken rice lunch. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to our D4Y trainers, Mimi Voo and Lena Goh, for their dedication—not only in teaching others but in their passion for the next generation. They continually hone and craft the workshop to equip Sunday school teachers, parents, and grandparents to nurture children in the ways of the Lord through His infallible Word. In a world where technology serves as both nanny and teacher, the traditional arts of reading and doodling are fading. Amidst the stress of academic competition, online media wields immense power in shaping our children's worldviews. This issue transcends borders—it's a global challenge. And seriously, when our government acknowledges a problem and comes up with guidelines, you know it's a sign of brewing trouble and imminent danger. So here’s our call to action! Join us for our next D4Y session on 4th April 2025—a special session crafted by our trainers specifically for parents and grandparents.  Let's ensure that our children grow up rooted in God's Word, ready to face the world with discernment and faith. Together, we can make a profound impact on the next generation, safeguarding their hearts and minds in these challenging times. Let us rise to the occasion and train up our children in the way of the Lord, so that when they are old, they will not depart from it—for His glory. Of Jonah and the whale, from the hands of the little ones... Our Young Adults (YA) Classes Have Begun Embracing a New Season of Spiritual Growth Praise the Lord for the smooth commencement of all our Young Adult (YA) classes! We rejoice for the newcomers among us and those resuming their Precept Bible study journey. We are deeply thankful for the regulars who faithfully continue to journey with us We kickstarted the year with three classes: the 40-Minute “The Power of Knowing God” on Tuesday evenings, the 40-Minute “Loving God and Others: The True Heart of Faith,” and Precept Upon Precept® (PUP) 1, 2, 3 John on Wednesday evenings. How wonderful it is to see a young adult in our midst step up to co-lead the Tuesday evening class. We are also grateful for our dedicated Wednesday leader who will continue to facilitate the 40-Minute Study Series, as long as we have participants—God willing.   This past week, we witnessed the launch of the PUP Philippians class on Monday evenings and the New Inductive Series Studies (NISS) on Thursday evenings. Praise the Lord! We marvel at the intriguing phenomenon of class enrollments: some classes with promising numbers at the start become stagnant, while others with initially low enrollment saw a spike on the last week before classes began. Perhaps, as Jesus said, "the last will be first." 😂   Through it all, we give thanks to the Lord for the 44 Young Adults who are committing their time to engage in God’s Word. We seek your prayers for meaningful engagement, good time management, a fruitful time of learning together in God’s Word...and perseverance. May the Lord bring more Young Adults to join us in our classes.   As for those who have yet to sign up, it is never too late to begin or continue your Bible study journey. Trust that it’s God’s perfect timing for you! Consider joining our next season of YA classes starting in March 2025: We give thanks and pray for those who have commenced or are commencing their Precept studies for the year, that they will be richly impacted and deeply engaged in the Word—by the renewing of their minds. Then they will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing, and perfect will (Romans 12:2b). With this, we bid you adieu until our next update. In the midst of political turmoil and natural disasters, let's keep the affected nations in our prayers. The call to know Jesus is urgent, and we pray that more will come to know Him personally through His Word. 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" - John 14:6 Support Precept Singapore Bless our ministry with a kind donation that we may continue to serve you and others through His Word. Your support will also aid our regional outreaches. We thank you deeply and ask that you keep our ministry in your prayers, not only for our funding but also that we may continue to be a vessel bringing others closer to God through His Word.

  • March Newsbyte Part 1: Rekindling the Joy of Community Learning and Fellowship.

"At the heart of our workshops, our convictions stood firm: rekindling community learning and fellowship. And even more so—to discover the joy of reading and expounding Scripture inductively." All glory to our awesome and faithful God, whose marvelous hands have been upon our ministry—we are brimming with updates! This post took a slight detour as we launched our End Times Symposium , which—PRAISE THE LORD—sold out in just 6 ½ days! In the midst of it all, new classes have begun, and more workshops have taken place. Blessings abound! To keep things digestible, we’ll be breaking our Newsbytes  into smaller bites, tackling each update one at a time. Without further ado, here’s a look at the first two workshops that have come and gone— How to Plan and Lead PUP Lessons  and our newly launched Weekend in the Word ! PREPARING LEADERS TO NURTURE FAITH AND INSPIRE OTHERS IN GOD'S WORD How to Plan and Lead Precept Upon Precept Lessons (PLPUP) 27 & 28 March 2025, In-Person @ Precept Singapore I am still awake. Now, that's a testimony. - 2 anonymous participants Now. That got a particular listener in stitches and nodding in vehement agreement, having been a beneficiary of Stephen Lim's "How to Lead" workshops. Stephen's mastery in delivery and engagement, developed over two decades, comes to life in his dedication to refining each workshop, keeping it both fresh and experiential. His approach includes mixing up the PUP materials and integrating practical exercises, ensuring that participants transform from mere listeners into active doers of their learning. We had a good group, many of whom were new to PLPUP. They were eager to learn and willing, with good participation. The training also helped them better understand the Precept inductive Bible study methodology. - Stephen Lim, trainer All praise and glory to the Lord! We had 13 participants, including 9 newcomers . 🎉 Fun fact: not everyone who attended was ready or compelled to be a leader. While Precept continually calls for more leaders to rise up for the next generation, the workshop welcomes anyone who is curious or wants to equip themselves in the art of inductive Bible study. PLPUP is a hidden gem—an "essential skill" that flies under the radar. And who knows? When God calls you to lead, the skill may be hidden in the safe but ever-ready to be deployed! To sum up, the participants' chatter highlighted the following key feedback about the training: Scribbles on the wall? A doctor's methodical prescription of structuring a PUP lesson. Helpful and refreshing. Well-run and well-led. Learnt how to ask questions in leading discussions. Learnt how to flow from one topic to another effortlessly. Discovered new ways to lead discussions with a good flow. Gained new understanding and insight into the Precept Inductive Bible Study methodology. Concise and clear structure in leading—useful. “Should do this before doing homework!” one participant quipped. Missed this workshop? Don't worry—you can join our online PLPUP workshop in July! If you're considering coming back for a refresher, you're always welcome! You never know which PUP material Stephen will select for the training GETTING BACK TO THE HEART OF PRECEPT INDUCTIVE BIBLE STUDY Weekend in the Word (WITW) | PUP Daniel Part 1, Lesson 1 29 March 2025, In-Person @ Precept Singapore Participants hard at work... with two empty 'hot seats' strategically placed in the middle? 😏 Late last year, a murmur began about this curious workshop called Weekend in the Word (WITW) . Hearsay, there were such gatherings in days gone by--except it wasn't called WITW. Back in days gone by (again), Precept classes were in-person—that was the norm. To meet the need of THAT moment in history, virtual meetings has become the new way of life. As undeniably convenient as they are, they simply cannot replace the impact of face-to-face engagements and fostering of relationships. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together , as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. - Hebrews 10:24-25 Rekindling the Joy of Community Learning and Fellowship At the heart of this workshop, our convictions stood firm: rekindling community learning and fellowship. And even more so—to discover the joy of reading and expounding Scripture inductively. Like the two disciples on the road to Emmaus exclaimed, " Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us? " That, dear friends, is our desire. That through inductive Bible study, Scripture comes alive and becomes powerful for you—igniting a longing in your heart each time you open it. Most of all, to fully embrace inductive Bible study, it is essential to understand its methodology. At its core, our mission at Precept Singapore is about engaging people in a relationship with God through knowing His Word—to know God deeply. Live differently . Breaking Through the Time and Screen Barrier I survived the 9 to 5 session! The idea of a full-day, in-person workshop—completing an entire Lesson One  of any given PUP course—seemed daunting at the start and hush-hush jibes flew across Zoom screens. But praise be to the Lord, we had a wonderful turnout of 25 participants! And after months and moons of knowing some of the participants only through virtual space, meeting in person felt almost like a blind date—time to lift the veil! Most embarrassingly, there were moments of screen-to-real-life identity confusion… but what’s a reunion without a little comic relief—this clown hopelessly excelling at recognition blunders? 🫣 Self-deprecating jokes aside, we heard cheerful quips from the Young Adults as the day progressed: "I survived 9 to 5! not as bad as I thought it would be!" Fascinating debates added spice to the discussions, active participation in Q&A, and—most of all—the much-missed presence of real people not hidden behind black screens and muted mics,  the day of fellowship was a true blessing. "The workshop went well. We had good participation and many good questions raised." — Stephen Lim Scripture guides you toward God. Precept guides you through Scripture. All praise to our Lord again that indeed it went well. Weekend in the Word  was more than just a workshop—it was a reminder that studying Scripture, when done in fellowship, isn’t a task but a joy.  I am happy to see the result. The participants picked up the reasoning process. When class participation is low, it’s often because people don’t know how to do the homework. Without proper understanding, there’s no joy in reading the Bible and doing the homework. And where there’s no joy, there’s no application." — Grace Lim They said… No WITW workshops are scheduled for the rest of this year. But before we bid our adieu, we leave you with some wonderful feedback from our participants! Click right arrow to read the next feedback Next up: Our interview with our D4Y trainers, Mimi Voo & Lena Goh For our next Newsbyte , we’ll bring you an exciting report on D4Y | A Special Session for Parents and Grans . We’ll delve into their passion for teaching children to study the Bible inductively, explore how the trainings have evolved over the years, and may unveil a new plan in the pipeline. Keep your eyes peeled for updates! Before you go... Please consider supporting Precept Singapore! As a non-profit ministry, we are sustained by freewill donations and, in part, by the nominal proceeds from our study materials. Your generosity helps cover essential costs, translate resources into other languages, expand regional outreach, and equip churches and study groups—helping more people engage in a transformative relationship with God through knowing His Word. No amount is too small—as little as $10 a month can make a lasting impact.
